What Questions Should I Ask A Nutritionist, And What Should I Expect When I See One?

I’m 14, and my mom is going to take me to a nutritionist or some type of counselor. First of all, are they expensive? What’re the different people that specialize in nutrition and weight loss and what are their differences in what services they perform? Who should I see? I’m 5′2” and 146 lbs and would like to lose 16 lbs. Who would I go to if I want my body fat measured and any possible deficiencies and such to be analyzed, and a plan made to work with my body? Who would I go to to recommend a healthy weight for my body type? My family wants to join in on this, too, because we could all stand to lose some weight and shape up.

I think they run 30 – 40 an hour but your insurance may cover it. A personal trainer who runs about 70 – 100 an hour.

The nutrionalist will determine how much calories you should intake a day, what nutrients, how much protein, etc. based on your age, height, current weight, medical history (i.e. if you are diabetic), etc. He or she will then recommend a diet plan for you – it may be generic like eat 6 oz of protein at meals with 2 oz of carbs at 11 am or a meal plan like 6 oz chicken and 1 cup cabbage at lunch time. He or she sould also discuss the healthy food preparation (i.e. don’t fry that chicken, grill it!), when to eat (don’t skip breakfast or gorge at midnight), and so forth.

To prepare for your session, I would keep a journal for a week or two of what you are eating. Be honest about it! If you ate a big mac and french fries for lunch, write it down. The nutritionlist will be able to look at your food preferences, what time you eat, and make better recommendations for you. For example, instead of a big mac and french fries, one meal may be a hamburger (sirloin, low-fat, cooked on the grill) on a whole wheat bread with oven baked fries.

This is the best route to take – change your eating habits and you will change your life. Drinking some silly berry juice may help you slim down but won’t make you healthy.

You may also hire a personal trainer to help you learn how to exercise efficiently.
