ABC's of Snacking
Making tasty and nutritious snacks is one of the biggest challenges, yet few of us can get through the day without a snack. Just like a car needs fuel, our bodies need food to keep us healthy. When we feel hunger between meals, our bodies are signaling that a jump-start is needed. Eating three meals a day is not enough. Nutritious snacks are smart ways to get nutrients and energy that our bodies need. Snacks do not have to be high in calories, fat and sugar to taste good. Here are some quick Healthy Snack ideas:
- Fresh Vegetables sticks with cottage cheese
- banana with natural peanut butter rolled in ground flax seeds
- Frozen fresh pureed fruit cubes
- Whole grain toast with natural peanut butter & banana
- Baked potato with plain low fat yogurt
- Sliced apples with natural peanut butter
- Fresh fruits & vegetables with low fat yogurt dip
- Dried fruit mixed with whole grain cereal as a trail mix
- Nuts & raisins
- Natural peanut butter on whole grain crackers
- Graham crackers with skim milk
- Rice cakes with low sugar jelly
- Air popped popcorn sprinkled with cinnamon
- Low fat Yogurt smoothie
- Low fat cheese with celery sticks
Next time your stomach hollers for a treat eat a healthy snack, it will give youenergy to get through your day
